Shocking Trailer: Nagesh Kukunoor’s film on sex trade, 'Lakshmi'

The trailer of Nagesh Kukunoor’s next filmLakshmi leaves one shocked, disturbed and yet deeply impressed, all at the same time.
Kukunoor’s cinema has always been about hope, struggle and triumph against seemingly insurmountable odds. This time, the filmmaker trains his lens on the menace of sex trafficking through this story of a girl who’s forced into prostitution, tortured and made to sleep with several men before she gathers the pieces of her shattered life and take on her tormenters through law.
Nagesh Kukunoor himself plays a pimp in the movie.Satish Kaushik, the co-producer plays a negative role as well. Shefali Shah plays the mistress of a brothel, while actor Ram Kapoor plays a lawyer.
Lakshmi marks the Bollywood debut of singer Monali Thakur. The film’s punchline goes, “Are We Being Human.”
Now, since everyone associates Being Human with Salman Khan, Nagesh Kukunoor too hopes that the superstar comes out and supports this movie, which is made in good cause.
“That would be a dream scenario if he (Salman Khan) comes forward and endorses the film. It would be wonderful because having the support of someone like him would be tremendous for the cause... if Salman comes on board for the film, it will be terrific,” Kukunoor told reporters Tuesday at the trailer and poster launch of the movie.
Lakshmi will hit theatres on Jan 17 next year.
Don’t miss the film’s trailer. It’s a must-watch below
